Wow what a well groomed word!!
Sup! The first time I saw the word, I had to give it a second glance to register the meaning(oh it’s so well groomed!!) Now I’m waiting for the day when I need to type only a P! instead of the good old WHAT IS UP!.. Similar was my reaction when I first saw TC (take care), GdNt (good night. I’ve seen many typing GT too!), Cya(see you) an loads more.. sad part is that I cant expect more cropping because then only blank spaces will remain.
This style of messaging is so popular in the cool college world that it not only conveys the message but tells something about the person.. i.e. if one types an OK.. oh she is normal boring girl, if it is a k.. hmmm.. she knows something about chatting.. if it is an okie.. wow she must be a real hip!! And if it is an AWK.. ma god can I impress her by ma style .. she knows more..
Once it took a couple of minutes for me to decode the last word of the message ‘Do u ave d nwtz’(Do you have the notes) and I felt awkward(should I say shame) to reply with my T9 dictionary on.. I tried the word ‘nwtz’ on a Yo! Friend of mine thinking it will boost my confidence to message in the groomed style(I was just a beginner then) and she’ll be impressed on my style.. but the reply broke my heart(..sob..) it was a S! I couldn’t make out whether she said yes or no(or get lost I won’t give you!!)I’ve heard about an Indian Prince who wished to learn English but stopped his attempt because-quoting his words-“in English we have to spell C-A-T and then pronounce it as CAT what a stupid language(sad for his tution teacher)”... if the trend of spell like you talk was there then, someone would have taught him 'spell..'KA-T' and pronounce KAT'(and made good money). The word KAT sounds like the malayalam word for wind(Sorry if you don't know malayalam i couldn't help noticing it).
12 years in spell correct world (psst.. i studied in a convent.. sob).. and 4 years in the spell like you talk world has given me two different skills. I never have many red circles in my answer sheets(along with a totally pissed teacher).. And Yo! now i know that S means yes, N means No, NWTZ means notes and SUP means What is up (i keep updating the newstyles without fail). i belong to the group who switches T9 off and on according to the person on the other end(ahem..ahem).
Imagine a world with only the spell like you talk english.. you open the news paper to see '2dyz Nwz..' or 'Bush saz...' They will be teaching 'ka','sa','ga' in schools.. hey wait aren't we going back to the ancient style of language like the Indian languages... And everyone says we copy their culture.. Who is copying whom??...
